Shakuhachi and bansuri bamboo flutes have a long history as instruments central to meditative traditions in Japan and China, as well as in folk music of many cultures around the world.

I met Jorge Alfano in 1997 at a sound healing conference. Without a rehearsal, our first duet performance felt like we had been playing together for years.

Jorge is a shakuhachi and bansuri master whose melodic lyricism and tone have inspired me to orchestrate arrangements that continue to delight the spirit.

In addition to Rhodes electric piano, I play grand piano and multiple additional keyboard. As producer, I added additional space between some phrases. Listen carefully to the ending of key tracks…you’ll hear how subtle echoes in the transcendent slow fadeout that were not part of the original recording. (listening deeply with headphones will elevate your experience to new levels).

SPIRIT of BAMBOO features several tracks never before available, that showcase a more jazz-inflected vibe and take our music into more dynamic explorations. Many tracks are deeply meditative and steeped in the “blowing Zen” Buddhist tradition. (can you guess which track has 27 million plays on Spotify?) Other tracks feature a timeless ambience that transport you into the gap between thoughts.

Jorge Alfano is an Argentinian born sound healer who also performs on bass and Flutes with a popular band that tours South America. He has lived near Miami for the past 30 years, where he has performed solo at the Mandarin Oriental on koto, oud, cello and keyboards.

He has released a number of albums on his own label, including “JazZen”, “Sacred Flutes”, “One Heart”, and “Spirit of my People”.
